Opt-Out of Unwanted Calls!

Opt-Out of Unwanted Calls!

If you’ve ever applied for a mortgage and had your credit pulled, you’ve likely received multiple calls from unknown numbers shortly after. Different companies are likely trying to sell you credit and insurance products. It could also be other mortgage companies you've never contracted trying to pitch to you.

Keep in mind that it’s not the lenders or loan officer initiating these calls, or even the credit pull itself. These happen when the credit bureaus sell the information after the credit pull and putting you on a prescreened list. Lenders and loan officers do not have the ability to stop this information from being sold, as it’s sold from the credit bureaus, but there are a few preventative steps you can take.

How can you prevent this? There are a few actions you can take to lessen these unwanted calls.

1.      Visit https://www.optoutprescreen.com/ to opt-out of these transactions via electronic and mail. Your name will not be eligible for inclusion on lists used for Firm Offers of credit or insurance for five years or permanently by mail.

2.      Visit https://www.donotcall.gov/ to further explore eliminating spam calls to your mobile number.

Via Opt-Out Prescreen, if you choose to Opt-Out, you will no longer be included in firm offer lists provided by these four consumer credit reporting companies.  This usually takes a few days to process, so it may be a good idea to Opt-Out if you know you’re applying for a mortgage soon.

On the other hand, if you are not receiving firm offers because you have previously completed a request to Opt-Out, you can always request to Opt-In.
